Downloading your raw data: VCF, FASTQ and BAM

Variants & interpretation · 2 min read · Updated 12 August 2026
In brief

VCF for interpretation tools, BAM or FASTQ for re-analysis. Download links last seven days and can be regenerated any time.

Raw data becomes available when your report is published, under the profile it belongs to. Three formats are offered.

VCF lists your variants against the reference genome and is a few hundred megabytes — this is what third-party interpretation tools expect. BAM holds aligned reads at roughly 50–90 GB. FASTQ holds unaligned reads at roughly 100 GB and is what you want if you plan to re-analyse from scratch.

Download links expire after seven days and can be regenerated from the profile page.

Uploading your genome to a third-party service moves it outside our control and outside our privacy commitments. Read their terms carefully first.
